Abstract

摘要

This talk starts with two principles, namely, principle of minimal work and principle of minimal work fluctuations.  Both principles are applicable to classical as well as quantum domains.  The first principle provides us an important guideline in designing nanoscale heat engines, for example, in the construction of a quantum analog of the classical Carnot heat engine.  The second principle takes us to unexpected findings on the timely topic of fluctuation theorems in nanoscale thermodynamics.  In particular, we reveal that the usefulness of the celebrated Jarzynski equality has unfortunate limitations in the classical domain, and its quantum version has even more serious restrictions at low temperatures. These results shall motivate us to seek next-generation fluctuation theorems.
