For example, compounds with different components, different lattice structure and different forms of interaction can all be magnetic, or all become superconducting, or have exactly the same quantized conductivity. How to understand the emergence of universality out of the varied microscopic details? Two of the key guiding principles are symmetry and topology. Symmetry and topology are fundamental in shaping our current understanding of the condensed matter phase diagram. Moreover, the combination of the two leads to new excitement in the field. In this talk, we discuss how symmetry and topology can cooperate to generate exotic macroscopic properties beyond conventional understanding. Examples include symmetry protection of gapless edge excitation around a topological bulk and symmetry enrichment of fractional topological order. | Contact Person 所内联系人 | 周森 | |
