LIGO’s first direct observation of gravitational waves in 2015 marked a new era for not just astronomy but also particle physics, with gravitational waves now becoming a new frontier in searches for physics beyond the standard model. In this talk, I will show how to search for new physics with gravitational wave data, with examples including recent searches for  cosmological first order phase transitions, cosmic strings, and dark photon dark matter using LIGO’s third observing run data.
